The Maker
About
Making things by machine, finished by hand in Boulder, Colorado.
I'm Steven Newman — a designer and maker working at the intersection of digital fabrication and physical craft. My work starts on screen as precise CAD files and ends as real objects you can hold, hang, and live with.
Every piece passes through a laser or CNC router, then goes through hand finishing — sanding, staining, sealing — to arrive at something that feels as good as it looks. I care about the edge as much as the overall composition.
Based in Boulder, I work with individuals who want original art for their homes and with design professionals who need custom fabrication for their projects. The scale of work varies, but the standard of finish doesn't.

The Process
01
Design
Every work begins as a precise digital file. I design for the material — considering grain direction, kerf width, and how shadow will fall across the finished piece.
02
Cut
The design is run through a CO₂ laser or CNC router, depending on the material and scale. Machine settings are dialed in for each specific job.
03
Finish
Pieces are hand-sanded, stained or left natural, and sealed. Final inspection before packaging and delivery.
